Snapseed for Android Can Now Do RAW Editing
Google is pushing out a new version of Snapseed for Android today, and the latest update brings RAW editing of DNG photos (or other RAW photos that have been converted to DNG).
RAW photography was added to Android phones last year, and now photo editing apps are updating to support DNG editing.
The ability to edit RAW means that Snapseed users will be able to have much more flexibility in their editing than when working with JPEG images. Using the original data captured by the camera, Snapseed will be able to recover blown highlights and dark shadows in ways that weren’t possible in earlier versions:
A new Develop tool in the app will open up when you load a RAW file in Snapseed. You’ll have the ability to exposure, contrast, white balance (temperature and tint), saturation, shadows, highlights, and structure.
“The Develop tool integrates seamlessly with Snapseed’s other tools and filters to provide a comprehensive photo editing suite,” Google tells PetaPixel.
Here are some more examples of RAW photos before and after they’re edited with Snapseed:
RAW editing is available in Snapseed 2.1, which will be rolling out as a free download in the Google Play store over the next day or two.
